Safe Sidewalks LA Rebate Program Application Checklist

Property Owner

1. Apply at sidewalks.lacity.org or call 3-1-1. Upload property ownership documentation.


Property Owner - Within 14 days of request for additional information

2. A City representative will contact you if any additional documentation is required (examples: grant deed, trust, LLC operating agreement).


City - Upon City approval, project request moves to queue

3. City conducts site inspection and develops Rebate Offer amount.


City, Property Owner -  Property owner has 14 days to accept or decline

4. City provides Rebate Offer via email. Inquiries and/or follow up for the Rebate Offer should be made to sidewalks@lacity.org.


Property Owner - Within 60 days upon accepting rebate offer

5. Hire a licensed contractor with an A, C-8, C-12 or C-61:D-06 license. Contractor resource list can be found at https://engpermits.lacity.org/srr/publicdocs/listofcontractors.pdf.


Property Owner - Within 60 days upon accepting rebate offer

6. Pull permits - do not go to a public counter. Use link provided in rebate offer email only. Apply for applicable no-fee permit{s) 1) Class A-Permit; 2) Tree Removal and Replacement; or 3) Tree Root Pruning.


Property Owner, City & Contractor - Construction must be completed within 90 days of issuance of permits

7. Conduct mandatory Pre-Construction Meeting. To schedule, call (213) 485-5080, or visit bca.lacity.org and select "request an inspector" prior to commencing construction or with any questions about the work.


Property Owner, Contractor - Construction must be completed within 90 days of issuance of permits

8. Construction occurs.


Property Owner, Contactor - Request must fall within 90 day construction period

9. Request final inspection. To schedule, call (213) 485-5080, or visit bca.lacity.org and select "final inspection". 


City - Once construction is complete, certification request moves to queue

10. City certifies project; warranty period begins.

The City will issue a Sidewalk Certificate of Compliance.


Property Owner

11. Submit W9. W9 must be submitted in person or via US mail only - online submissions are not accepted.


City - Rebate checks mailed within 30 days of receiving W9

12. City mails rebate check.
